USA: 73. rocznica utworzenia Sił Powietrznych

Po zakończeniu II Wojny Światowej, dokładnie 18 września 1947 roku na mocy przyjętej ustawy o bezpieczeństwie narodowym (National Security Act of 1947), Siły Powietrzne USA zostały utworzone jako odrębna formacja bojowa. Amerykański Kongres wraz z prezydentem Trumanem zadecydował, że Siły Powietrzne powinny być gałęzią wojsk, która jest niezależna od armii. Po wstępnych dyskusjach prezydent Truman zarządził utworzenie Departamentu Sił Powietrznych. Do 1947 roku siły powietrzne były częścią składową amerykańskiej armii. Dziś siła bojowa Stanów Zjednoczonych w powietrzu jest największa na świecie.
